RLF Writing Fellow 2004-2006
I am so excited to be starting a two year position, in conjunction with the Royal Literature Fund, at Plymouth University as a Writing Fellow. Since 1999, the Fellowship scheme for ‘Writers in Higher Education’ has seen over 750 professional writers at over 100 universities and institutions. The principal aim of an RLF Fellow’s work is to foster good writing practice; we do not teach creative writing but focus is on developing students’ ability to produce more readable academic work – whether essays, dissertations, learning journals or lab reports for undergraduates, post-graduates or researchers. It’s going to be fascinating and so good to be back in an institution of learning once more.
‘Rebecca Tantony is a rare find in the world of lecturers due to her passion, engagement, and talent both in teaching itself and the field in which she teaches.

Why write?
The benefits of creative writing workshops are diverse and wide. They include increased confidence, greater self-expression, improvement in literacy and vocabulary, igniting passion in literature and creative writing and a deeper understanding of the individual self through language.
Accessible Exploration
All workshops have been crafted so participants can access contemporary poetry as a means to explore creative expression. I have been Arts Award Trained and come with Public Liability Insurance and an up to date DBS.

In all workshops, I offer the opportunity to explore creative writing in a fun, accessible and dynamic way. Participants will be able to examine the origins of poetry, will be shown examples of style and led through the basic tools needed to write and perform poetry to an audience.
“I think Rebecca is the most kind-hearted person I’ve ever met. Her poems are amazing and are an inspiration for others.”

International
Alongside my work with Bath Spa University, I have taught Poetry Performance for BA students in the drama department of the Creative Arts faculty at Weston College and I have facilitated writing residential retreats that include Arvon courses.
My work has also led me to teach internationally. During 2012, I taught on the creative writing programme for 826 Valencia in San Francisco and in 2018 I was a writer in residence at Wits University, Johannesburg, teaching creative writing to both MA and BA students over a month-long period.
